Description:

The Assistive Technology Unit (ATU) Equipment Specialist II provides expert fabrication services to produce equipment for individuals with disabilities to enable them to maximize their independence in home, school, work and recreation settings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide fabrication services in variety of ATU projects, including: specialized seating systems for wheelchair frames; support trays and brackets for communication devices; individualized equipment for use at worksites of ATU clients; individualized adaptive equipment.
Assembly of commercially available equipment, modification of commercially available equipment, and custom fabrication of equipment for use by individuals with disabilities in their home, school, work and recreational setting.
Read and comprehend shop drawings and sketches; perform mathematical calculations required to complete drawing specifications; fabricate parts and overall devices for fabrications; produce parts with required tolerances, suing measurement equipment (tape measure, calipers, micrometers).
General maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all ATU shop machines; maintain shop reference material on machinery, materials and safety precautions; maintain shop in clean and organized condition at all times; provide instruction and advice to ATU staff and students on safe and efficient use of shop equipment.
Maintain inventory of materials used for ATU projects, including: plastics (HDPE, acrylic, polycarbonate); wood (plywood, Douglas fir); Metals (aluminum, steel, stainless steel); fasteners ( screws, bolts, rivets, adhesives); etc.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned, including driving ATU Mobile Units to and from ATU visits, maintaining routine and emergency service to ATU Mobile Units.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years (36 months) of technical, trade, or craft experience, education, and/or training related to one or more areas of equipment specialization.
Two (2) years (24 months) of professional experience in the procurement, maintenance, and repair of specialized technical equipment.
Demonstrated experience providing fabrication services to produce equipment for individuals with disabilities.
