Description:

The Institute of Healthcare Delivery Design (IHDD) is part of the Office of Population Health Sciences (OPHS) which sits within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs (OVCHA) at UIC. IHDD applies human-centered design to healthcare delivery to break down barriers to accessing quality healthcare and to make healthcare systems, services, and experiences that "fit" people and enhance lives.

Job Summary:
The Senior Design Strategist II scopes, plans, and manages highly complex projects from problem definition and solutioning to concept creation, prototyping, piloting, and, ultimately, implementing changes and innovations. In addition, the Senior Design Strategist II helps manage and improve IHDD's internal operations. The Senior Design Strategist II serves as a mentor for more junior IHDD team members and, on projects, reviews more junior design strategists' work and ensures that junior design strategists have opportunities to further their professional-development goals.

Duties:
Focus Area

The Senior Design Strategist II scopes, plans, and manages projects with high levels of complexity and ambiguity.

Project Scoping:
With oversight from Principal Design Strategists or Director-Level staff:

Shepherds business development opportunities from initial conversations, through iterative proposal and grant application writing, through to contracting and staffing projects.

Creates project proposals or grant applications that define how we'll apply design to solve clients' problems.

Creates research and design plans and timelines for proposals and grant applications.

Determines staffing models for proposals and grant applications.

Prices research and design work for proposals and grant applications.

Project planning and management:

Creates plans for executing design research and strategy projects, from upfront research and stakeholder engagement, development of strategic plans and roadmaps, concept development, prototyping and piloting through implementation.

Manages teams of design strategists, contractors, students, and interns to carry out all phases of design research and strategy projects.

Keeps teams focused and committed to seeing projects through to completion.

Tracks project burn rate and manages staffing resources for a project (or oversees a project manager who is in charge of these tasks).

Stakeholder Engagement:

Develops plans for stakeholder engagement at both a strategic and tactical level, including the identification of the right set of stakeholders to engage to create a more user-centered view of the problem understudy.

Manages teams in the creation of stakeholder research activities and the execution of these activities.

Leads the analysis and interpretation of the needs and perspectives from diverse stakeholders.

Responsible for aligning diverse stakeholder needs and perspectives and integrating them into IHDD's work.
