Responsibilities

The primary focus for this position will be to lead security and fire life safety for Related Midwest in Chicago, Illinois. This position will be based out of the Related Midwest office in Chicago. This individual will be the forward facing security lead for all engagement with local, state and federal law enforcement and fire safety partners in Chicago. This individual on a daily basis will be the bridge between Related Midwest's security operations and law enforcement. This individual will adapt best practices and apply them to daily operations within Related Midwest's assets. Additionally, the Security Director will have oversight of any security vendors, off-duty law enforcement presence at Related Midwest's assets and oversee special event security. These duties are performed with ethics, moral integrity and honesty, in compliance with all company policies and procedures and all applicable city agency statutes.
Key Responsibilities
In coordination with Related Chief Security Officer, implement and execute best practices in Security and Fire Life Safety functions
Develop training, hiring and supervising policy while integrating the Related customer experience
Support both the Commercial Office, Residential, Affordable and Retail operations
Foster a collaborative working relationship with all ownership entities, tenants, residents and vendors
Manage, coordinate and communicate with the security vendor representatives
Oversee all asset security personnel and evaluate performance while mentoring individuals for improvement when needed or necessary
Oversee post orders; develop, implement and train Emergency Action Plans, as well as develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures and conduct audits
Liaise with Federal, City and State partners in the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois to assist in determining the appropriate security posture for the assets
Establish and coordinate best practices for Special Events at the property
Meet with tenants and event coordinators to address potential security risks impacting their operations as needed
Develop a threat based security posture including local crime analysis and current threat level to class A real estate assets, luxury and affordable sites
Collaborate with internal operational departments to minimize operational expenses and maximize a wholistic security plan while leveraging corporate buying power
Establish best practices for incident reporting, data retention, data analysis, forensic video review/retention and maintaining all electronic records consistent with Related corporate policy
Establish the serving of legal process for video reviews and law enforcement investigations
Coordinate with Related Midwest counsel to memorialize legal process served on the assets
Prepare operations budget in coordination with the vendor and asset managers
Oversee vendor billing and accuracy in collaboration with asset managers and accounting
Actively seek creative and cost-effective solutions in the Company's overall operation by demonstrating continual fiscal responsibility in the oversight of invoices, scheduling, and equipment needs
Implement a threat based security approach informed by intelligence
Qualifications

20+Years in Law Enforcement/Security field required, prior law enforcement experience preferred
Must have served in a supervisory/command position for 10+ years
Must have strong law enforcement experience and executive contacts in the Chicago, Illinois law enforcement community
Understand a corporate security environment and have knowledge of Access Control Systems, CCTV's, Command Center Operations, Visitor Management Systems, Fire Command Operations, etc.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and present to C level suite personnel as well as tenant facility personnel and staff
Must have knowledge of physical security, guard force management, venue security, crisis management and business continuity
Bachelor's Degree required
Advanced degrees and training welcomed
