Responsibilities:

The Department of Performance of The School of Music at DePaul University invites expressions of interest in an adjunct faculty opportunity to conduct, teach, manage, and lead the DePaul Symphony Orchestra (DPSO). Successful candidates will demonstrate technical and artistic mastery and a passion for teaching fundamental and advanced orchestral skills to serious college level music students.

The DePaul Symphony Orchestra rehearses and performs in the Mary Patricia Gannon Concert Hall in the Holtschneider Performance Center on the Lincoln Park campus. The DePaul Symphony Orchestra focuses on a thorough and serious study of orchestral repertoire. Students receive regular coaching by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera orchestra and DePaul's preeminent string and wind faculties. Professionalism and orchestral fundamentals are prioritized.

Duties include:
  • Conducting all DPSO rehearsals and concerts
  • Programming
  • Working with conducting faculty to manage scheduling, calendar, student assignments, etc.
  • Listening to seating auditions
  • Handling academic requirements such as grading and submitting grades, taking attendance, etc.
  • Overall management of the DPSO
  • Mentoring serious music students and modeling professionalism
  • Supporting the mission of the DePaul School of Music

Required Qualifications:
Required: Master of Music or equivalent professional experience. A track record of success in both teaching and conducting.

The candidate must have demonstrated experience working and teaching in a diverse learning environment.
