Job Description
Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic I (Full-time 40 hours a week)
Department: Maintenance Department
Hours Of Work: 9:00 A.M. TO 5:30 P.M.
Reports To: Maintenance Director
Salary Range: Union position starting at $24.12 per hour, with benefits
SUMMARY: Performs a variety of maintenance, repair or alteration duties including carpentry, electrical,
plumbing, painting, and basic security functions; performs maintenance and upkeep on a variety of heating and air
conditioning units and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes but not limited to the following.
• Performs a variety of building alteration tasks to include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting,
building, and repairs to sump pump, replacing valves, and installation of sinks.
• Changes filters, greases air handlers, checks and grease motors; adjust electric cell doors, wire bad
switches and weld necessary parts.
• Move and rearrange tables, chairs, and equipment as necessary for cleaning and/or for meetings and
other activities; moves furnishings and miscellaneous items from one office and/or building to another as
directed; assists in unloading supplies.
• Performs basic security functions to include securing doors at night and checking security lights.
• Maintains boilers, related heating equipment, HVAC systems and related chillers.
• Maintains equipment as programmed with the yearly preventative maintenance program for each
building.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Qualified applicants must have a High School Diploma/GED.
• Plus additional education in the maintenance field at a junior college or vocational school and three years
of experience in general building maintenance and repair, or any combination of the above.
• EPA Universal Certification/Plumbing License is preferred
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Extensive knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and procedures utilized in building and trade
maintenance and repair.
• Ability to determine the origin of malfunctions and take the appropriate action.
• Ability to install, maintain, and repair building electrical systems.
• Ability to perform carpentry duties and building alterations.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; skill in
operation of required tools and equipment.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and walk/stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and to effectively communicate both orally and in
writing.
