POSITION TITLE: Youth Program Supervisor
LOCATION/DEPT: Rockford Temple
REPORTS TO: Corps Officer
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: RFT

OUTCOMES
It is a goal of The Salvation Army to employ a highly motivated person to facilitate programs for youth in our community. This is a ministry position responsible for developing, monitoring, and managing all youth programs including The Salvation Army's EMPOWER After School Program, a holistic youth development program for elementary and middle school students. The program will intentionally focus on relationship building as the 'active ingredient' in programming, services, and activities.
Under direction of the Corps Officer, coordinate the daily operation of the After School Program. This may include, but is not limited to planning, developing, scheduling, facilitating, and monitoring a variety of activities. EMPOWER will serve elementary and middle school students with a capacity to serve up to 75 students daily.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares for and monitors a variety of educational, recreational, relational, and development activities, including mentoring and tutoring programs attendees.
Monitor all activities to ensure compliance with established activity plans and grant requirements as well as The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Foster and model relationship building in 5 key areas; Express Care, Challenge Growth, Provide Support, Share Power, and Expand Possibilities
Assist with the development and implementation of program schedules and activities to measure outcomes of program participants in these 5 key areas.
Assist with the supervision and training of program counselors.
Assist Youth Program Administrator in recording and maintaining statistical information and data records.
Attend training for and utilize The Search Institute 40 Developmental Assets model. Knowledge of the Search Institute and Bridges Out of Poverty R Rules materials and website resources.
Attend and participate in staff meetings.
Maintain confidentiality, proper client, and staff boundaries. Comply with The Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
Maintain a positive, professional work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters relationship building.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Trained in Search Institute Developmental Assets model, and The Salvation Army Safe from Harm Safety and Abuse Prevention Program.
Ensures that Safe from Harm guidelines are instituted and followed in the local setting.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred, or within 30 days of hire.
Assist with the transportation for youth attending program.
All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Corps Officer.
Oversee the safety and wellbeing of participating youth and assist with keeping staff directed, informed and on task.
In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of the position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Two years' experience in youth development field preferred.
Experience with youth programming and interest in child/youth development studies, education counseling, and/or recreational programming.
Capable skills in MS Office Suite and database maintenance.
Valid Driver's License (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to passenger vans/bus).
COMPENTENCIES
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of positive and consistent leadership.
Relate to people of all ages and demonstrate a sensitivity to individual needs.
Ability to supervise staff and program participants of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to address and adapt to situations involving security or in a time of crisis.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines with minimal direction.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
