Job Description
The Senior Sponsored Programs Officer is responsible for independently supporting the acquisition and non-financial oversight of sponsored research and other sponsored activity made to Lurie Children's Hospital through grants, contracts and subawards. This individual works closely with faculty, the Offices of Research Business Management, Post-Award Financial Management, and Research Integrity and Compliance to ensure successful proposal submissions and the accurate management of awards.

Primary responsibilities: proposal development assistance including interpretation of sponsor requirements, budget preparation and review, application document review, communications with subrecipient organizations, negotiation and acceptance of grant, contract and subaward agreements, non-financial oversight and monitoring of sponsored projects technical reporting terms through award closeout, negotiation and oversight of subaward and consulting agreements. Maintains a portfolio based on a PI's clinical division or research program and works cooperatively among the team.

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Job Related Experience: Minimum 4 years' experience required in research administration, preferably in a scientific setting.

Skills/Knowledge: Experience with federal, mainly NIH, policies and systems related to sponsored research/grants administration. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team player, manage time and multiple tasks, set priorities and manage deadlines in professional manner. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with external contacts, physicians, PIs and other internal personnel. Experience with Microsoft Office (in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 365). Prefer familiarity with Cayuse Research Suite or other web-based proposal and award systems.

Physical Demands: While most of the work is sedentary, specific duties will involve going to other campus buildings.

Job Duties

Provide interpretation of Federal, State and institutional policies, procedures and guidelines for Principal Investigators (PIs), their staff, and Division/Neighborhood Research Administrators while also facilitate communications with grant making staff when clarification is needed.

Provide ongoing guidance and training to PIs, research support and departmental staff on OSP processes and policies.

Collaborate with faculty, Research Administrators and other research support staff throughout the proposal development process, collecting and assembling proposal documentation, sharing best practices, and providing templates as needed.

Develop and provide detailed proposal checklists and timelines to manage workflows and help guide faculty and their staff through the proposal development process.

Provide guidance throughout the budget development process, ensuring agency compliance and accuracy prior to proposal submission.

Conduct final compliance review of all Federal grant applications and upon approval, transmit proposal to grant agency/lead applicant.

When Lurie Children's is a Subrecipient on another organization's grant/contract award, serve as liaison to lead entity for sub-award/subcontract documentation and compliance purposes.

Facilitate Just-In-Time and other pre-award actions requiring institutional authorized review.

Review terms and conditions of award documents from external sponsors for acceptance by Lurie Children's Hospital.

Negotiate terms and conditions in alignment with organizational expectations.

In collaboration with PI/PI staff, prepare, negotiate and issue sub-award and consultant agreements.

Ensure agreements are properly documented and recorded in Cayuse grant management database for audit purposes and that they meet Federal reporting obligations.

Process internal steps to issue new and continuing award documents to Lurie Children's Hospital Office of Post-Award Accounting Financial Management for award financial setup and issuance.

Provide post-award actions requiring institutional review and agency prior approval.

Advise Director, OSP of any non-compliance concerns.

Work with PIs, research staff to review and submit progress reports; facilitate review and transmission of technical final reports required by agencies.
