The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Chicago is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a part time (25 hours/week) School Age Child Development Worker. Job Objective:
The Family Care Center (FCC) Child Development Worker provides care for children at the College for Officer Training. Care is given in an efficient, clean, loving, and healthy manner. Staff must provide a loving and caring atmosphere where children can experience a feeling of autonomy, and where positive self concepts can be developed.

Essential Functions:
Follow the "Guidelines for working with Children and Youth" and "Handbook for Employees" from The Salvation Army Central Territory Headquarters
Plan a daily curriculum, which will include structured homework time as well as fun activities including crafts, music and other teaching materials
Submit monthly plans to the Family Care Center (FCC) Director to be put on the master calendar and distributed to parents
Plan the daily activities for any holiday days for the school age children. This will include a written plan, notification to parent, permission slips, van usage, and preparing a budget for the activity
Plan monthly snack menu and distribute snacks to the appropriate classrooms as requested
Maintain an information/activity bulletin board outside the classroom and develop and create theme boards in Family Care Center (FCC) common areas
Enhance knowledge of child development by reading current articles, attending conferences as requested, participating in Family Care staff in-service training, fall orientation, and taking advantage of other opportunities for self-improvement
Oversee all equipment in the school age classroom and recommend equipment purchases for classroom to the FCC Director as needed
Communicate with parents concerning issues of discipline, personal needs of the children (i.e. supplies, extra clothing, etc.) health, and others areas of concern
Schedule conferences with parents and teachers, when necessary, under the supervision of the Family Ministries Coordinator and/or the FCC Director
Maintain a daily written log of activities, particularly disciplinary action, and behavior changes
Log and report all accidents that occur while children are in Family Care
Must be familiar will emergency procedures and have participated in a basic first aid course
Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and sanitation in Family Care Center including changing tables, carpets, furniture, sheets, toys, cups, utensils, dishes and any other items identified
Assist in employee consultations by communicating work appraisals for the assistant teacher assigned to them to the Family Care Center Director
Demonstrate proper social skills such as respect for other children
Demonstrate respect for equipment
Reinforce spiritual awareness and values through Bible stories and simple scripture songs in the classroom
Be supportive of parents by providing consistency in discipline between home care and family care
Responsible for classroom clean up at the conclusion of the scheduled workday including properly storing equipment and toys, emptying diaper pails and garbage bins, disinfecting changing areas and counter tops and placing all food items in refrigerator
Assist in picking up children from school (walking or driving depending on circumstances)
Education:
Associate's degree with evidence of advanced childhood development courses or CDA certified

Experience:
2 years of experience working with children in a childcare setting or education setting

Certifications:
CPR (adult & young child)
First Aid
Safe From Harm (provided upon hire)

Skills:
Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel
Must have a valid State of Illinois driver's license
Must maintain confidentiality
SupervisoryResponsibility:
Will assign and check work of Assistant Teacher
Travel:
Occasional local travel involving driving or walking in the Chicago metro area. Out of town travel at least 2 weekends per year usually involving driving.
