Provide a safe environment for children during the time parents attend classes at The Evangeline Booth Lodge.
POSITION TITLE: Drop-In Center Worker
LOCATION/DEPT: North & Central Illinois Division / Evangeline Booth Lodge
REPORTS TO: Social Services Manager
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: Full-Time

DEPARTMENT MISSION
To support the full mission of The Salvation Army by providing compassionate, professional service to the families residing at the Lodge and in the community in a team-focused manner with the entire Lodge staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a safe drop-in center environment for children under the age of 6.
Oversee the safety of children at the center.
Create educational and fun activities for the children.
Ensure that the children's needs are met, including but not limited to changing diapers, toileting, appropriate snacks and access to toys.
Monitor interaction among the children.
Maintain open communication with parents of the children.
Supervise volunteers in the nursery, ensuring that they are assisting with child care.
All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Formal education/training in child development is preferred.
Previous experience in child care preferred.
COMPETENCIES
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in lights of changing job situations/priorities.
Ability to communicate clearly in English with children and parents.
Certification in CPR and First Aid.
Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must have be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to interact and care for children.
The work environment for this position includes a nursery/child care environment with a moderate to high noise level.
