Department Overview:
The mission of the Major Gifts department is to grow and sustain five (Ten Thousand Dollars and above), six and seven-figure donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors through direct donations and planned-giving. Members of MDA's Major Gifts Department are passionate about being industry leaders in their ability to help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through development and cultivation of a sustainable and rewarding relationship with the MDA and its mission to help people with a neuromuscular disease live ever stronger more independent lives.
Position Description:
The Director, Major Gifts is responsible for growing the number of individual donors in the MDA's major gifts and planned-giving programs. The Director, Major Gifts primary objective in these initiatives is to encourage current donors to increase their annual contributions and to attract new donors while directing their philanthropic goals toward advancing MDA's mission. The Director, Major Gifts also works collaboratively with other fundraisers in planning and executing major MDA annual donor events in various cities. The Director, Major Gifts reports directly to the Vice President, Major Gifts.
What you'll do:
(Major Gifts are defined as equal to or greater than Ten Thousand dollars annually).
Establish one-on-one relationships with current major gifts and planned giving donors with the goal of moving them to higher donations.
Work with our prospect research department to data-mine MDA systems for high-net-worth people with whom MDA is already in contact. MDA systems from which potential new donors may be identified include Sales Force and past and present donors within MDA's multichannel marketing system.
Work with a major gift portfolio of up to 100-125 prospects/donors
Develop a project plan with an appropriate timeline to connect with all potential new major gift donors obtained through the data mining described above.
In consultation with the Vice President, Major Gifts, develop quarterly and annual individual dollar goals for cumulative new and current Major Gifts and Planned Giving donations.
Create move goals (increases in annual donation) for each active Major Gift donor in the portfolio based on the understanding of the donor's capacity to give and philanthropic interests.
Work closely with the Vice President, Major Gifts and designees to continue refining and enhancing MDA's Major Gift and Planned Giving programs.
Manage stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through developing individual relationships, meetings, correspondence, mailings, acknowledgments, and other meaningful opportunities for individual donors to engage with MDA.
Assist in developing, leading, and managing donor events in key cities/regions, in coordination with other members of MDA's Development Team.
In collaboration with the Marketing department, develop an effective message to attract new high-net-worth individuals to MDA's major gifts and/or planned giving programs.
Represent MDA at external functions and events as requested.
Closely track donations and cumulative quarterly and annual revenue growth for Major Gift and Planned Giving donors and certify results with the Finance Department to ensure accuracy.
Maintain monthly reports and use this data to drive decision-making to achieve budget goals.
Other related responsibilities, as assigned.
Salary Range:
This position's salary range is $110,000 - $120,000. Final offer amounts and levels are determined by multiple factors, including your experience, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
