Drainage Engineer

Chicago, IL (Hybrid or On-site options available)

Patrick Engineering, a RINA company, is seeking a talented Drainage Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure & Mobility division. This is an amazing opportunity to be a critical member of a regional team as it expands nationally.

Job Summary

The Drainage Engineer is responsible for the execution of field and off ice drainage assignments under the supervision of the Drainage Manager. The Drainage Engineer is responsible for technical work, and is involved in hydrology and hydraulic calculations, studies, and designs. The Drainage Engineer is part of a team of transportation engineers, working with the Project Manager and Staff Engineers in an effective manners. The Drainage Engineer is comfortable working cross-functionally and has the ability to coordinate with others on larger, multi-discipline projects. The Drainage Engineer will of ten participate in site visits and client meetings, and proposal writing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare Phase I drainage studies including existing and proposed drainage plans, hydraulic reports, and Location Drainage Studies
  • Prepare Phase II engineering plans and specifications for drainage facilities including storm sewers, detention ponds, erosion control and water quality facilities
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation projects
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Prepare storm water permits
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals
  • Coordinates with other engineers and supporting staff during preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements
  • Responsible for meeting assigned project goals and objectives and ensuring on schedule accurate completion within budget


Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (focus in hydrology and hydraulics) from an accredited university or college
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required
  • 2+ years of professional drainage study/design work
  • Work experience and knowledge of IDOT and ISTHA drainage design policies and procedures ideal
  • Proficiency with MicroStation
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local storm water and floodplain permitting
  • Excellent technical communication skills (oral and written)
  • Willingness to learn and invest in professional development
  • Self-starter who can work independently or part of a multi-discipline team
