Job Description
RRD is looking for an energetic, and highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility.

Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors

Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain a gravure press or , multi-color offset press to print single-color, two-color, and/or multi-color work which includes large solids, screen tints, line and halftones with critical color values and registration requirements ranging from hairline to critical.

Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run (sheet wise or work and turn).

Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc

Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.

Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required.

Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.

Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe andinjury-free work environment.

Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.

Responsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality and postal specifications.

Determines when product is suitable for saving.

Responsible for producing a sample-quality product.

Provides accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.

Communicates information effectively with other crews and departments, scheduling, prepress, maintenance.

Coordinates make-ready process by reviewing job information, establishing make-ready plan, and assigning responsibilities to crew members.

Responsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press, and using the "Request For Action" system to notify the maintenance department of issues with the equipment

Other duties as assigned
Shifts: 7pm - 7am/ 3 days on 4 days off rotating every 8 weeks

Qualifications
Requires thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials and specifications, equipment, and safety requirements and skills to perform assignments
Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate press usage, press settings and materials needed to run the job successfully
Skill to make a variety of difficult precise settings of controls, settings, and adjustments, and to perform routine operational maintenance of equipment
Skill in routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
Knowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being run
Skill in use of micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly
High School Diploma or GED
5-8 years web press-printing experience.
Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color and register is required
Special Skills
Communication skills.
Troubleshooting/Problem-Solving Skills
Mechanical Aptitude
Continuous standing/walking - 8 -12 hrs
Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching.
Occasional lifting and pushing/pulling - 50 lbs. or less.
Occasional repetitive motion with both hands.
