Overview
The Controls Engineer I contributes to the development of new products for material handling applications including conveyors, sortation, automated storage, order fulfilment, and robotic systems. Includes development of specifications, device layout drawings, control schematics, PLC logic.. May work with support of more senior engineers. Works closely with the overall team to design systems meeting the product requirements. Uses creativity and innovation to design the standard product offering.
Responsibilities
Concept, design, develop and engineer products that add value and are a solution to customers and market needs
Collaborate and review with others on the development team to develop products
Ensure products developed fit with current and future manufacturing operations
Ensure products developed meet competitive and market demands for performance and cost
Specify and develop a sequence of operations of automated equipment
Prepares schematics and specifications for control panel fabrication
Develop Programmable Logical Control (PLC) programs
Maintain product develop schedules and cost estimates
Follow established engineering standards and best practices including software revision control
Support prototype development and testing
Support on site beta testing to ensure safety, reliability, and other performance metrics are met
Investigate product issues in the field and determine root cause
Travel up to 30%
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience
Experience, such as an internship, with the material handling industry
Experience with various industrial HMI and SCADA systems
Experience with Allen-Bradley controls/controllers or Schneider PLCs a plus
Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including HMI and SCADA
Knowledge of controls/controllers and PLCs a plus
Proficient with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team-oriented and collaborative
Creative-thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to learn new technologies
Self-motivated
Ability to work non-traditional hours
