Description
The primary function of this position is to provide direct patient care and support duties to the patients of the Department of Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care Facilities.
 Examples of Duties
Direct Patient Care 90%
1.Assists with the flow and movement of patients in the clinic and communicating with providersand nursing staff to improve efficiency of clinic workflow. Responsible for keeping the providerexam rooms full.
2.Take patient vital signs, document in electronic health record and communicate findings withmedical providers.
3.Completes patient history information as needed.
4.This position will provide assistance and support to medical providers and other nursing staffduring procedure clinics within the Department of Internal Medicine ambulatory clinics.Responsible for set up for the various procedures and assisting residents and faculty at thebedside during the procedure.
5.Responsible for assisting providers and faculty in various specialty clinics within the Departmentof Internal Medicine.
6.Responsible for the oversight maintenance of clean, well-equipped and supplied exam rooms,assembles clean and sterile packs for special procedures, and maintains clean and sterileequipment. Responsible for maintaining the procedure rooms in working order, includingstocking and reporting inventory needs to nurse leaders.
7.Responsible for post-procedure patient education in collaboration with the medical provider.
8. Enter into Touchworks new and historical Social History as per stated by the patient
9. Limited Order Edit capabilities such as Insurance Preauthorization/precertification, Work Overdue Orders, schedule appointments
10. Set up procedure rooms
11. Assist a licensed Provider with department clinical procedures
12. After a departmental competency check-off according to an order or protocol, perform in-clinic tests and procedures including but not limited to:
a) Perform testing on adults including standard vision and hearing; enter results into electronic health record
b) Perform waived lab testing such as urine, bilirubin, pregnancy test, hemoccult, enter the results into the electronic health record; may NOT interpret results that are not immediately provided by the test (i.e. pregnancy)
c) Collect and prepare lab specimens; urine and sputum specimens
d) EKG
e) Spirometry
f) Pulse oximetry
g) Simple dressing changes
13. Notify Patients of normal test results only - via standardized letter or phone at the direction of a licensed Provider or RN, in accordance with HIPAA. Refers patient to a nurse if the patient has questions about their test results.
14. Give prevention reminders to patients (i.e. due for an eye or foot exam)
15. Complete standardized templates of patient communication letters under the direction of a licensed professional; obtain signature of the Registered Nurse or licensed Provider; this does not include medication authorization letters and forms.
16. Other clerical and clinical support duties as assigned.
 Qualifications

1) High school graduate or equivalent; AND

2) Any one or any combination totaling six (6 months) from the following categories:|||||||||||||||||||||||||

a) Six (6) months of work experience in direct patient care in a healthcare setting or equivalent
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
b) College course work in related field as measured by the following conversation table or its proporational equivalent (30 semester hours equals six (6) months)
