Description
This position provides charge nurse duties to the Neuroscience Institute (NSI). The primary
responsibility of the position is to supervise, manage and direct nursing care provided within the clinic and assist physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, residents and medical
students in the performance of patient care activities for the Neuroscience Institute.

Sign On Bonus: $10,000 sign on bonus with a 2 year work commitment through June 20, 2024!
 Examples of Duties
Patient Care
A. Provides clinic nursing care and delegation of clinical duties to clinical team members.
This care may include but not be limited to obtaining patient histories, assisting with
portions of physical examinations, administering medications, performing other nursing
procedures and documents nursing functions appropriately.
B. Performs clinic laboratory testing and procedural testing. Reports findings to physician
and records on patient medical record.
C. Assists with procedures. Sets up and/or completes procedures as necessary according
to clinic protocols and/or under the direction of the physician, physician assistant, or
nurse practitioner. Procedures may include but not be limited to Botox, Baclofen Pumps,
Lumbar Punctures, and injections.
D. Develops and implements patient plan of care with physician, physician assistant, or
nurse practitioner.
E. Coordinates delivery of patient plan of care.
F. Organizes clinic patient flow and revises as necessary to maximize clinical productivity
and minimize patient wait times.
G. Schedules follow-up patient activities ordered by the physician, physician assistant, or
nurse practitioner.
H. Communicates with call center, patients, families and other healthcare professionals.
I. Applies critical thinking skills to triage patient care priorities for patient phone calls and
needs.
J. Utilizes and maintains equipment used in the assessment and treatment of patients.
K. Ensures accurate and current nursing procedures pertaining to patient care through
appropriate supervision of clinical personnel in the clinical area.
L. Acts as liaison between healthcare facilities and other specialty agencies.
M. Functions as a primary nurse or back-up nurse as directed depending on the need.
N. Performs nursing duties in other areas of the NSI as assigned by leadership.
O. Serves as a resource to NSI staff members.
P. Ensures proper licensure and certifications of clinical staff members.

Administrative
A. Provides direct supervision for clinical team members. Monitors quality of work and
services performed by clinical staff and ensures that functions are performed according
to policies and procedures.
B. Performs clinical staff evaluations and participates in the disciplinary process.
C. Responsible for completion of clinic staff daily/monthly assignment schedule, including
assignment of nursing duties to cover absences as necessary. Approves vacation, sick,
and/or comp time.
D. Participates in the interview process and recommends hiring of department personnel.
Coordinates and oversees orientation and training for new clinical personnel.
E. Participates in the development, implements, updates and maintains policies,
procedures, standards of care and quality assurance programs.
F. Manage multiple NSI clinic/outreach sites.
G. Meets with leadership and department administrators to solve operational and clinic
problems, to monitor progress toward identified goals and to share other relevant
information.
H. Maintains or delegates inventory of adequate supplies necessary for clinic activities and
makes recommendations to leadership and/or department administrator for equipment,
commodities, and non-routine supplies.
I. Serve as a liaison to the SIU Risk and Safety team for the needs of the NSI.
J. Provides orientation to daily clinic activities and training for physicians, physician
assistants, nurse practitioners, students and residents.
K. Participates in departmental meetings.
L. Completes annual training and competencies.
M. Assists with implementation of research projects as related to patient care.
N. Performs other duties as assigned.
 Qualifications

1)  Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois; AND

2) One of the following:
a. 3 years of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse; or

b. 2 years work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse with 1 year of supervisory experience

Condition of Employment:  Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
