Responsibilities:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences within the College of Science and Health at DePaul University invites applications for a full-time term (non-tenure track) faculty position at the rank of Professional Lecturer starting September 1, 2024. The initial appointment is for one academic year, but the position may be renewed for consecutive appointments.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility for Professional Lecturers is teaching. The teaching load for this position is 9 courses per academic year (3 courses per academic quarter). Professional Lecturers may be called upon to engage in some service functions to help support programmatic or teaching-related activities. The position of Professional Lecturer carries no expectation of research or scholarly activity.

A significant portion of the teaching load for this position (at least 6 courses per academic year) will be for sections of Quantitative Reasoning. This course provides a mathematical foundation for students to become confident and critical users of quantitative information of all kinds: numerical, graphical, and verbal. Students analyze data from a wide variety of fields, making and critiquing quantitative arguments. The course is taught in a hands-on laboratory environment where students are introduced to computer tools for data analysis and presentation.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Actuarial Science, Data Science, Mathematical Sciences, and Mathematics & Computer Science, and offers graduate degrees in Pure Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Mathematics for Teaching, Applied Mathematics, and Applied Statistics. Beyond its degree programs, the department supports the university's general education curriculum and allied fields in the natural sciences, business, and computer science.
