We are currently seeking a Trust Counsel that will be responsible for ensuring that Wealth Management's fiduciary and regulatory responsibilities are properly conducted within the trust group. This position will also be assigned a select group of fiduciary accounts to administer as well as participate in committee appointments. The Trust Council will provide guidance to Trust Officers on legal matters to include pending and ongoing litigation and legal document reviews. Trust Counsel will communicate with Corporate Legal about third party legal assignments and any significant legal matters entailing risk to the bank.
Key Accountabilities
Legal Counsel
Research and advise Wealth Leadership on various legal issues related to trusts, estates guardianships, investments, retirement accounts, corporate trust, operations, and compliance.
Advise leadership and trust officers regarding day-to-day legal concerns of an administrative nature.
Work closely with Corporate Legal and outside counsel in the representation of Wealth Management regarding any pending litigation.
Risk Management
Collaborate closely with attorneys in the drafting of Trusts, Wills, and other legal documents, working collaboratively to ensure that Wealth Management accepts trust and estate accounts consistent with its policies and procedures.
Collaborate closely with attorneys and Trust Officers on judicial proceedings or non-judicial documents to address trust administration matters.
Draft release agreements and other documents relating to the opening, administration, and closing of trust accounts.
Provide ongoing training to Trust Officers regarding legal updates.
Compliance
Work closely with the Chief Fiduciary Officer and Compliance to review and draft policies and procedures.
Coordinate policy and procedure changes with compliance and provide necessary training to applicable team members.
Assist tax team with fiduciary income tax and other related issues.
Such other duties may be assigned by the Chief Fiduciary Officer.
Key Competencies for Position
Technical Knowledge of Trust and Probate Codes in States within Wealth Management's footprint, including Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
Proficient in Legal Research through online law library
Meticulous with Excellent Communication Skills - Oral and Written
Relationship Building and Collaborating - interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from an accredited law school; MBA or LLM a plus.
Admission, and in good standing, to the Bar of any State; Indiana required.
10 years of experience in the trust industry or with a bank trust department, or five plus (5+) years of experience in a law firm's trust and estates group (or related area of practice).
Familiarity with litigation, trust administration, guardianships, estate planning techniques, and transactional skills.
Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel, and Westlaw.
Experience with trust accounting software (e.g., FIS) a plus.
