Job Description

CDW Government LLC seeks a Principal DevOps Engineer to take a lead role in the administration of infrastructure and applications in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Be responsible for the applications architecture and support in Amazon Web Services as well as developing and delivering customer-facing technical presentations on AWS solutions tailored for the customer’s requirements. Specific duties include:

  • Function as an experienced and seasoned member of the development and operations team in designing, deploying and operating highly available, scalable and fault tolerant systems using Amazon Web Services (AWS) like API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS, CloudFormation, etc.
  • Adhere to the industry practices of a well architected cloud framework based on operational excellence, security, reliability, efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Comply, where needed, with NIST 800-53 standards, FISMA, FedRAMP framework, and Zero Trust architecture.
  • Assist in maintaining governance and best practices based on AWS recommendations to comply with agency’s policies.
  • Work with the scrum team(s) to understand the testing (manual, automation, performance) needs and assist with the build/deploy automation scripts on a cloud-hosted environment (AWS).
  • Lead Engineering/Development effort and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and other operational and maintenance scripts along with guiding the application development team on best practices for including logging and traceability within the code base and/or using third party tools.
  • Write and improve existing CloudFormation templates.
  • Build credibility and trust by delivering what has been promised within established timeframes and according to the Statement of Work.
  • Deploy CI/CD Pipelines using AWS or approved third-party tools for cross-functional teams with primary focus on automation to assist customers in setting up and governing a secure, multi-account AWS environment with automation.
  • Communicate effectively with Development and Operations teams to align on requirements, driving SDLC requirements, capabilities, and limitations pertinent to delivering highly resilient applications.
  • Actively identify gaps and improve existing code/processes required for cloud infrastructure management.
  • Establish response objectives by working with stakeholders and organizational leadership to determine the goal of responding to an incident.
  • Conduct proactive performance tuning and provide recommendations for improvement. Drive AWS Well-Architected-Reviews (WAR), showcasing thorough understanding of all pillars.
  • Work with a variety of other tools and technologies including IaC, Python, Java, JavaScript, JQuery, Bash, Powershell, CloudFormation, software productivity tools (Jira, Confluence, VersionOne, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and OneNote), AWS IAM, EC2, ECS, S3, VPC, Route53, CloudWatch, Lambda, RDS, AWS Service Control Policies (SCPs), Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub, AWS Code services, AWS GovCloud and Agile development practices.

The job is based out of CDW’s Vernon Hills, IL headquarters but the employee may work remotely from anywhere in the U.S.
