Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications
Overview
The department of Campus Dining handles all things dining on campus. From residential meal plans to event catering, we provide nutritional food for students, faculty, staff and guests. We manage over a dozen eating establishments at NIU including residence hall dining, restaurants and coffee shops at the student center, and the cafe in Barsema Hall. We employ the students and professionals who work in our restaurants and cafes.
Position Summary
The Distribution Clerk is an integral part of Retail Dining and Catering. Using a University vehicle, they deliver products equipment and other supplies to satellite locations and support Catering and other on-campus events including set-up, tear-down, and clean-up.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Delivers Catering food, equipment & other supplies to Campus Dining supported Catered events.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Assists in covering breaks and providing assistance at various dining locations when staffing needs warrant such activities.
Maintains sanitation and quality standards in accordance with Illinois Food Handlers Permit.
Assists in setting up, maintaining and cleaning of catered events.
Interacts with managers & crew of satellite operations to determine and maintain stock needs.
Delivers product and supplies to Satellite food operations on a daily basis.
Communicates product & supply needs/usages to storekeeper & managers to insure proper product levels/availability.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
Knowledge of simple clerical procedures.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, such as moving heavy objects, bending, standing, lifting, and other manual dexterity tasks.
Willingness to work, as directed, in all kinds of weather.

Valid Illinois driver's license

Ability to work long shifts.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to load and unload trucks, including securing cargo.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment, often in inclement weather.
Ability to work night, early morning and weekend shifts, as common for this position.
