JOB SUMMARY

LOCATION: PROVIDENT HOSPITAL
SHIFT: 11:00PM - 7:00AM (rotating weekends and Holidays)

Performs services related to patients undergoing general and arterial ultrasound examination. Duties include operating Ultrasound equipment as well as performing all types of Ultrasound examinations on patients.
Typical Duties
Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, outpatient registration and others, as required relating to patient matters.
Obtains and records an accurate patient history
Performs ultrasound procedures utilizing mobile and stationary ultrasound equipment to produce quality images which can be interpreted by Radiologist.
Analyzes technical information.
Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to the diagnostic findings.
Provides an oral or written summary of the technical findings to the Radiologist for medical diagnosis.
Provides quality patient care.
Collaborates with the Radiologists and other members of the healthcare team.
Prepares patient for ultrasound; transfers patient to table, positions and assists patient at end of procedures.
Collaborates with Administrative Director and Radiologist concerning procedural issues.
Adjusts equipment, determines proper gain, brightness and desired images, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patients and selects proper firm.
Communicates with Administrative Director relating to quality control, equipment calibration, procedural changes and work schedule.
Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients.
Cleans and disinfects equipment per Infection Control policies.
Completes all procedures in Radnet and inputs all procedures in Radnet within 24 hours when the system is down.
Transmits images via PACS system.
Performs other duties as instructed.
Protects all patient health information (oral or recorded in any form) that is obtained, handled, learned, heard or viewed in the course of work or association with the hospital.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have met one of the following criteria:
ARDMS certified or eligible. Must obtain certification within one year of starting
employment (Must provide proof at time of interview)
* ARRT registered (Must provide proof at time of interview)
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) trained with certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) (Must provide proof at time of interview)
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of approved training program in diagnostic ultrasound program
One (1) year of full-time work experience with varied imaging in diagnostic ultrasound

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Demonstrated knowledge and competency in performing general ultrasound to include but not limited to abdomen, OB breast, extremities, small parts and Doppler studies to include vascular, venous and arterial studies
Basic knowledge of patient care
Basic computer skills and ability to perform required tasks in Radnet and other systems
Applies knowledge of patient restraints policy and procedures
Understands the use of pediatric immobilization devices
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; communication techniques are age appropriate
Ability to use a variety of ultrasound equipment
Demonstrates ability to position patients of various body sizes and ages correctly & manipulate equipment & controls to produce optimum radiographic images
Demonstrates ability to select appropriate safe technical factors for exposure for patients of various body sizes and ages
Working Conditions
Physical activities:

Amount of activity per day: Sitting 60%, Standing 10%, Walking 30%

The employee will frequently:
Assist patients with ambulation
Work with body bent over at waist
Reach above shoulder level
Work with arms above shoulder height
Work with arms extended at shoulder height
Work with hands at waist level
Reach or stretch from the waist

The employee with continually:
Transfer patients into or out of a chair
Transfer patients from bed to cart or table to cart
Push/pull objects greater than 30lbs
Working Conditions continued

Lifting:
The employee will continually lift objects (such as cassettes) weighing up to 15 lbs.
The employee will frequently lift objects (such as patients) weighing greater than 30 lbs.

Pushing/Pulling:
Patients on carts and wheelchairs weighing up to 300 lbs. are moved approximately 200 feet. Carts are equipped with wheels.
