Job Summary:
The position conducts laboratory experiments and assists in the design and execution of one or more phases of projects. The primary responsibility is the maintenance and organization of a substantial colony of transgenic and gene targeted mouse strains. This requires planning of breeding schemes and genotyping of resulting progeny. Other scientific activities include working independently on ongoing projects requiring histology, microscopy, molecular cloning and/or cell culture. Administrative activities include tracking and ordering lab supplies and general lab maintenance. Expected to present progress and data in scientific group meetings. Position requires strong basic skills in mathematics, making solutions, facility with computers and the ability to understand and judge validity of data. Must have exceptionally strong organizational skills and must work well in a team. Position follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, and Good Laboratory Practices.
This will be a 1-year renewable position based upon performance and funding availability.
This position is a FULL-TIME position at 40.0 hours per week and works on-site.
Specific Responsibilities:
Following overall research objectives, independently designs, plans, conducts and troubleshoots experiments.
Evaluates protocols and data obtained from groups of experiments and recommends changes to processes, procedures and techniques to improve quality and validity of results based upon overall project objectives.

DNA, RNA, purification and expression
Southern, Northern, Western blotting

Plasmid preparation
Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
Immunology:
Flow cytometry Antibody production and purification
Cellular Biology:
Cell culture, cell isolation
Functional studies Transfection
Histology:
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
Immunohistochemistry
Microscopy
Animal:
Husbandry
Breeding and screening transgenic mice
Dissections
Blood collection
Surgical procedures
Database management of colony

Analysis of Genomics data
Administration
Observes experiments, collects, records, summarizes, analyzes and interprets research data.
Collates relevant mathematical results
Prepares complex tables reflecting relationships of multiple tests.
Draws scientific conclusions.
Co-authors scientific papers. 10%
Finance
Negotiates purchases with vendors.
Tracks and summarizes lab supply expenses.
Verifies accuracy of invoices.
Orders and/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice and/or lab supplies
Supervision
Trains and directs other lab EEs and/or students in research techniques and
procedures.
Completes other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR
Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year lab/bench or other relevant experience.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $22.52 - $31.67 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
