Job Description
Position Profile:
This senior position requires the ability to serve in a key capacity as the technical lead for planning and design of federal and other civil works projects and would take a leading role in the advancement of Hanson’s federal government civil works endeavors across Hanson’s geography.
A Day in the Life of a Levee & Dam Safety Engineer at Hanson
Here’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
+ Lead and manage civil works and flood damage reduction projects including all aspects and phases of design projects, scope development, staffing, budget, earned value management, scheduling, and client relationship management.
+ Direct the daily activity of project staff.
+ Prepare and assemble plans and contract documents.
+ Work with various disciplines including water resources, civil, mechanical, electrical, structural and architectural staff to accomplish projects.
+ Apply sound risk management practices throughout the project cycles and ensure application of Hanson quality assurance practices.
+ Participate in the performance evaluations of project staff.
+ Coordinate project priorities with technical staff.
+ Promote growth of Hanson’s civil works and geotechnical engineering skills and mentor technical staff.
+ Participate in strategic business development for civil works and flood damage reduction and related projects.
+ Contribute to the business development meetings and plans for civil works and related areas.
+ Collaborate with regional and market leaders in client selection and development.
+ Assist in developing strategic pursuits and proposals.
+ Be externally focused to grow client relationships and develop business.
+ Desire to grow and support strategic directions within the external market and internal company.
What We’re Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Education/Experience:
+ Bachelors or masters degree in geotechnical, structural or civil engineering.
+ PE and a minimum of 10 years’ experience with civil works projects.
+ Experience with levees, dams, flood risk management and related projects.
+ Experience with concrete dams.
+ Experience with dam safety and permitting.
Technical Skills:
+ Experience participating in multi-discipline teams to accomplish design of civil works projects.
+ Experience in all phases of civil works projects from study to design to engineering during construction.
+ Ability to conduct design and construction phase meetings both internal to Hanson and with the client and contractor.
+ Ability to apply earned value management and project management-related software tools.
+ Desire to become a trusted adviser to clients and a business partner with subconsultants (develop and maintain relationships in support of business development and execution of projects).
+ Ability to work with teams to produce proposals for civil works clients including cost estimating, communications and writing skills.

For this position you must be willing to travel as demanded by clients, projects and the position, have the ability to work overtime to meet client and project demands and possess a valid driver’s license.
