Position Summary

In this role, you will ensure Timberland’s store experience is an accurate reflection of our culture and brand. You will be a trusted member of the Retail team reporting to the Senior Director, Retail, and join a leadership team charged with elevating our full-price and outlet store channel by elevating and driving the store experience. You are both strategical and tactical, tasked with ensuring Timberland’s retail experience is truly differentiated and deeply imprinted on customers. You are an inspirational team leader and mentor with a contagious – dare we say near obsessive – focus on delighting customers, both internal and external.

District Manager, Central (Timberland Americas)

How You Will Make a Difference

What you will do:

+ Lead and maintain a positive and inspiring work environment.

+ Drive the training strategy for the district accountable for the overall leadership and people management. This includes store staffing, proactively recruiting and hiring top talent, training and development, scheduling guidelines, performance management, role clarity, succession and career planning, coaching, diversity and employee relations.

+ Lead the store management of between 10 – 15 stores to help drive a best-in-class consumer experience, achieve sales and profitability targets and ensure long-term business growth in accordance with the company’s strategic intent, core values and brand philosophy.

+ Analyze business performance against marketplace/stores and create and implement action plans to maximize profitability, productivity and business growth. Accountable for key indicators such as Target Sales, Conversion, Units Per Transaction (UPT), visual merchandising standards, shrink, controllable expenses, payroll and hours management, employee turnover and retention (all at the district level).

+ Develop constructive and positive working relationships with all business partners and manage cost center expenses by managing district travel, payroll, and contest budgets.

+ Coordinate all store openings and closings in partnership with store operations in accordance with established processes.

+ Participates in corporate projects, committees, and initiatives.

Skill for Success

Years of Related Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in footwear merchandising, product creation, buying and/or retail in a vertical, multi-brand or digital environment.

Formal education and subsequent undergraduate/graduate degrees, such as a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field, are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

As the ideal candidate, you are a savvy, consumer-obsessed, strategic, and operationally minded retail business builder with a passion for leading, inspiring, and growing high-performing retail teams. You will be measured against the following:

+ As a brand beacon for Timberland, you will have a deep and personal appreciation for the brand and an almost instinctual sense of the Timberland “adventurous doer” customer: where they live, work, play and how they discover and engage with the customer at every brand touchpoint

+ Growth experience

+ Previous experience shaping a 4-wall full-price business, for a consumer-focused omni-channel retailer

+ A track record of growing businesses with strong financial discipline and bottom-line orientation

+ A track record of helping companies upgrade processes and implement new ways of working and best practices to support growth

+ Leadership

+ A low ego coupled with a sense of urgency; you lead by example and inspire others to get the job done regardless of job title or rank

+ Analytical and data-driven; able to forecast and analyze trends, review projections, and make sound business decisions based on data

+ The leadership ability to work across the organization (Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Digital Technology, etc.) to ensure retail operations are seamlessly integrated into the overall organization
