No Duties and Responsibilities

+ Leads and guides the professional services functions within the University’s Information Technology Services ( ITS ) organization, which consists of enterprise technology project management, enterprise architecture, solutions development, and campus partnerships.

+ Responsible for the strategic planning and project lifecycle of core business systems (and integrations to related systems), including the student information system, student portal, database services, HR, finance, advancement, and related solutions.

+ Fosters and maintains strong collaboration between ITS and campus technology users. Promotes a culture of innovation and collaboration to apply technology solutions and enhance technology functionality to meet institutional needs. Continue utilizing existing executive governance committees (such as the IT Executive Steering Committee and related subcommittees) to support and advance enterprise technology initiatives.

+ Collaborates with others in the planning of major university systems architecture, including applications, data, and infrastructure architectures. Works with CIO and ITS leadership to lead and manage the enterprise technology architecture roadmap to transition from its current state to defined future state.

+ Leads and guides the IT Project Management Office ( PMO ). Ensure that the PMO approach aligns with the University’s strategic priorities, along with involving internal ITS groups and external client groups properly in project design and implementation.

+ Participates in the development and deployment of the overall enterprise technology strategy. Takes part in IT strategy execution, including IT resource portfolio planning and management activities.

+ Contributes to and support ITS governance activities, including participating in the executive committee and relevant subcommittees.

+ Recommends enterprise system integrations and technologies that will enhance existing systems.

+ Fosters a cooperative work environment that enables team members to develop professionally, respects diversity, promotes teamwork and collaboration, along with emphasizing quality, customer satisfaction, innovation, and cost efficiency.

+ Manage the projects and activities related to the Technology Services department within the ITS organization, including their operating and capital budgets. Establish and maintain strategic relationships with product and service providers.

+ Provides regular status reports to VP\ CIO and other senior management.

+ Participates in University-wide committees.

+ Works with external vendors to evaluate products, technologies, and services.

+ Participates in professional organizations and presents at professional organization conferences/meetings.

+ Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline with an IT focus is preferred. A graduate degree in business, education, or management is preferred. A minimum 10 years of experience in systems development, systems architecture and methodologies or related experience with a minimum of 5 years building full life cycle applications OR, minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior architect role, OR, minimum 5 years’ experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement involving broad-based information systems. This should include progressively significant management experience including 5+ years of major management experience, demonstrated systems development and infrastructure experience and excellent communication skills, both oral and written are necessary for this position.

The individual in this position must:

+ Provide consultation to university teams and other customers on critical business problems, defining processes and researching/identifying enabling technologies based on customer requirements.

+ Partner with university leaders, IT leadership team and technical staff to assess the technological cost and impact of recommended changes, help clarify priorities, and coordinate cross-organizational consortia where needs have been identified.

+ Participate in annual and strategic system planning as required by the VP and CIO .

+ Assume a leading role in training / mentoring individuals and others both within and outside the division.

+ Have a track record of prior technology leadership experience is required.

+ Senior level understanding of higher education functions and systems preferred.

Language Ability:

+ Excellent communication (verbal, written, presentation), interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and ITS management and staff.

+ Core consulting skills such as business writing and presenting, and analytic comparisons.

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to understand and apply concepts such as resource utilization, work effort, percent to complete and project health.
