POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Correctional Monitor
LOCATION/DEPT: Pathway Forward Program
REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: RFT

OUTCOMES
The Correctional Monitor is responsible for the security and safety of the facility, the resident accountability (movement) system, and the management of residents and visitors. Working under the close supervision of the Shift Supervisor on duty, the Correctional Monitor supports the work of Reentry Case Managers in their delivery of services to residents.

Sufficient administrative support will be provided to ensure that program duties are effectively achieved. The Shift Supervisor will assist the Correctional Monitor with administrative and communication skills. Reentry Case Managers will provide constructive feedback to improve relations with residents. A liaison will exist within both the Community Corrections Program and the North & Central Illinois Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors resident movement in and out of the facility and maintains documentation of same.
Periodically conducts visual headcounts to determine location of all residents. Complete home confinement checks with residents.
Assist supervisor with room searches, pat downs, and handling of contraband, and serve residents discipline notifications.
Manages log office procedures, including pass authorizations, medication administration and records, incoming phone after regular business hours, facility inspections and general activity in the facility.
Assist residents with conflict resolution and conflict de-escalation. Report resident concerns to supervisor and/or BOP. Completes timely and accurate incident reports.
Continuously monitors resident activities and behavior, security, and fire safety to maintain a safe, secure, orderly, and clean environment. Reports all problems to Shift Supervisor and prepares disciplinary reports where appropriate. In the event of emergency, immediately notifies appropriate persons.
Supervises admission of visitors and enforces the facility's visiting rules, policies, and procedures.
Assists with the intake and orientation of new residents. Assist intake with PREA assessments, GPS monitoring, and transporting of residents.
Reports concerns of interest to Reentry Case Managers.
Assists the Urinalysis Coordinator with completing resident breathalyzers and drug testing.
Periodically issue residents medications and inventory medications of residents.
All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Shift Supervisor.

This position requires frequent interaction with the Security Supervisor, Reentry Case Managers, and Program Manager - Operations. There is extensive contact with the public during visiting hours. In addition, this individual relates to a large and diverse number of people inside and outside the Salvation Army. In these contacts, the individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of performance.

A performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a similar field is preferred.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: security, corrections, a residential setting, or social services is required.
COMPETENCIES
Ability to interact well with persons under stress and to defuse potential violence.
Strong support for the mission of community corrections and an understanding that this is not a law enforcement position.
A calm demeanor and solid judgment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy and good judgment.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
An attention to detail.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
