Job Description

The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Public Observing Educator to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Public Observing Educator is involved in the day to day development, facilitation, and coordination of various onsite, online, and offsite telescope observing, observatory, and sky observing programs and activities, such as our signature ‘Scopes in the City telescope outreach program and our YouTube-based Sky Observers Hangout online program.
 

This individual will also be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with various Adler staff to a) recruit and onboard new telescope volunteers, b) train, coach, and supervise our telescope volunteers, and c) build relationships between the telescope volunteer team and other Adler volunteer teams
  • Collaborating with staff to implement sky observing, telescope observing, Doane Observatory programs and events for in-person guests and online audiences
  • Collaborating with the Director of Public Observing to implement a new research program with undergraduate students and teen students that utilizes the Adler’s Doane Observatory
  • Developing telescope- and observing-themed educational activities for use with Adler guests, outreach audiences, and online audiences
