Description:

This position assists the Principal Investigator in conducting research focused on issues relevant to perinatal medicine, especially those related to elucidating mechanisms of preterm birth, innate immunity, infectious/inflammatory processes, and preeclampsia. An applicant should be willing to act as an integral part of a team and be able to perform advanced animal husbandry and cell culture related activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform complex techniques or procedures to conduct research experiments with molecular biology techniques such as: a) PCR, Immunohistochemistry, b) Western blotting, c) Immunoprecipitation , d) RNA/DNA extraction , e) ELISA

Responsible for animal colony breeding, expansion and maintenance for the research projects. Keep records for animal numbers and procedures in accordance with approved protocols.

Assist the Principal Investigators and laboratory manager in maintenance of records for publication, good laboratory practices with respect to laboratory supplies and equipment, record keeping and regulatory requirements.

Conduct basic research activities in accordance with protocols approved by the Principal Investigators. Perform critical review of the current literature. Such activities will involve the use of laboratory animals including mice, rats and guinea pigs and that of primary and immortalized human cell lines.

Monitor and maintain an appropriate quality control program consistent with institutional guidelines and/or regulations.

Assist MFM fellows and other students on their research projects.

Orders and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred.
A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
Proficient in specific lab research techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:
Coursework in anatomy, physiology, statistics, and relevant research methods desired.
Knowledge of working with animals such as mice, rata, and guinea pigs, and that of primary and immortalized human cell lines.
Preferred skills: Western blotting, PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, RNA/DNA extraction.
Ability to work with a team of professional researchers, principal investigators, and learners such as fellows/residents/medical students in conducting research.
