Job Description
Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer IV. The Software Engineer IV designs, builds, and supports software solutions for some of the world's largest retailers. Our developers are involved in the entire project lifecycle: they interact directly with our business owners to understand and document requirements; they collaborate with the implementation and test teams on design and development; and they oversee delivery and provide ongoing support for their work.
The Software Engineer IV will design and oversee development of large or multiple smaller software solutions with limited architectural guidance.
The Software Engineer IV is a thought leader in the organization and will collaborate, as required, with internal and external teams to facilitate development/test, sales, interlock with third-party vendors, and improve development practices. They may also lead one or more teams small-to-medium teams, providing mentoring, guidance, and code reviews to junior and senior engineers, and ensuring consistency and reuse across projects.
The incumbent will excel in our fast-paced, collaborative, customer-first environment and will contribute in a variety of ways.
RESPONSIBILITY
Advises and reviews technical designs, implementations, and tests across multiple small-to-medium projects or a large project. Implements product features in C, C++, or Java using Object-Oriented principles. Designs, develops, and tests/debugs client- and server-side code. Builds modern UIs using web technologies (HTML, CSS and JavaScript). Resolves complex technical challenges requiring a diverse scope of domain and discipline knowledge. Identifies opportunities to leverage existing assets (code, tooling, documentation) in new projects. Interfaces with internal & external teams to ensure alignment of deliverables.
Performs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one product line.
Mentors junior engineers, reviews code, and grows technical leadership skills across the organization. Conducts knowledge-sharing or training sessions. Ensures technical resources assigned to tasks aligned with their skills.
Consults on and/or reviews release notes, test plans/cases, and functional specifications.
Perform other related duties as assigned .
Complexity
The candidate will use designated tools, languages, and processes to independently implement new functionality or to solve problems in existing function . The candidate produces designs or specifications for functional requirements of large complexity. The candidate is an expert in multiple functional areas, leads a team, and reviews functional designs and code produced by others. The candidate will typically collaborate internally and externally with multiple teams, including clients. Regular project reporting to management is required, as is occasional participation in technical sales activities with services partners. The candidate will influence engineering processes & tools.
Senior engineers often wear an additional "tech lead" hat. This means they take on the work of project management and process oversight. They keep the trains running on time. Note that a tech lead does not have direct reports: they lead by gravitas. Owns cross-team shared infrastructure. Works with Management and other architects to choose new technologies and promote culture / process. Has deep technical expertise in a business-critical area. Does serious research to evaluate and test options. Understands implications (and trade-offs) of reliability, scalability, operational costs, ease of adoption by organization, recruiting, etc.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE & SPECIAL SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
8+ years of experience developing in C, C++, or Java- based environment, including cloud/enterprise content.
8+ years of Object-Oriented development.
Fluent English Language Speaking, Written Skills.
Experience building Solutions that may involve enterprise-, cloud- and client-side components which may leverage Java, JavaScript and modern UI frameworks, RESTful microservices with JSON & Swagger, and relational and no -SQL databases.
Experience carrying out the software development process which may include evolving continuous build, automated test, and deployment platform which utilizes Jenkins, containers via Docker, Cucumber/Selenium, Azure, and Kubernetes.
