Job Description

 Description
SUMMARY: The internship position is ideal for a candidate looking to get exposure to local government and, more specifically, the functions of the Community Development Department.

 Examples of Duties

The Community Development Department is responsible for Code Enforcement, Building Safety, Planning and Zoning, Grant Administration, Neighborhood Enhancement, and Land Management. The position will support staff in enhancing data analysis of department and city-wide metrics, in addition to assisting with day-to-day activities for the office. An ideal candidate will have experience in data collection and analysis, including data entry, cleaning, and manipulation with an interest in Community Development and City Government.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or GED required. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, considered. 
 Supplemental Information

IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of objectives and practices of a municipal government. Ability to engage thoughtfully with data collected by the city and aid in building datasets, analytical frameworks, and tracking tools. Experience with global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) hardware and software; recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques is preferred. Basic knowledge of computer and other general office equipment; applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations; and all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
