Description:

Nutrition Assistants (Nutrition Peer Educator) are staff of the Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion (CPHP) at the University of Illinois at Chicago Office of Community Engagement. Nutrition Peer Educator (NPE) provide nutrition education and services in community-based settings as part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture-funded public health nutrition education program. Nutrition Peer Educator (NPE) are responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of evidence-based nutrition education programs for low-income individuals and families in Chicago. Nutrition education programs include group and teachable moment's presentations. Nutrition education programs include group and teachable moment's presentations. Nutrition Peer Educator (NPE) work collaboratively with each other, Intervention Coordinator, Health Education Specialist, other health care workers, and administrative staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides high quality, interactive nutrition education instruction to participants (eligible, low-income families and individuals) in a variety of formats (series of group sessions, workshops) covering topics on basic nutrition, food buying practices, food safety, food budget management, and other nutrition-related topics. Assists other CPHP staff in community-wide nutrition education programs. Provides liaison between CPHP and the interventions.
Seeks additional service sites and program opportunities within the community.
Assists community members to access and utilize the SNAP program and other available nutrition programs effectively and efficiently as consumers. Maintains accurate and timely records, including designated information on participants, and produces reports on all program activities as assigned. Participates as a team member with UIC Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion staff and community partners.
Maintains professional competence through on-going trainings and professional development opportunities. Responsible for the inventory process of all CPHP equipment that includes a check-out/in of all equipment, equipment is cleaned and in working condition for the next event. Works with Data Resource Coordinator on database entry including site related
Works in collaboration with other NPEs, Intervention Coordinator, Health Education Specialist, program coordinators, and administrative staff on a daily basis.
