Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Position Summary: The Histotechnician is responsible for performing routine histopathological taskss including microtomy, embedding, immunohistochemistry and special staining procedures in preparing specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist. Qualifications: EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS H.S. Diploma/GED in Paper Diploma required (non-POCT position) CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS None Specified EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS None Specified SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Strong ability to work corroboratively and effectively in a fast-paced, flexible, team-based environment. Essential Functions:

+ Accession all Anatomic Pathology specimens in laboratory computer system.

+ Cut routine parffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

+ Process Cytology specimens including all pap smears and non-gyn specimens.

+ Prepare equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtomy and processing of tissue. Perform routine and special staining techniques. Label, file, discard and maintain tissue, slides, and blocks.

+ Maintain cleanliness in the lab environment.

+ Perform various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols. Evaluates acceptability as associated with department testing.

+ Embed tissue for microtomy.

+ Cut routine paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

+ Prepare equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtomy and processing of tissue. Perform routine and special staining techniques. Label, file, discard and maintain tissue, clides and blocks.

+ Process Cytology specimens including all pap smears and non-gyn specimens.

+ Perform various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols. Evaluates acceptability as associated with department testing.
