Job Summary
Further the research at the IGB by providing assistance through the creation of data management tools, creating data management plans, consulting to solve the data needs of researchers, and auditing data management plans to ensure they are followed. A significant portion of this position will involve developing close relationships with researchers and guiding them towards participating in an environment that heavily values good data management practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
Creating Data Management Tools/Documentation
•Create a tool to scan a projects data, looking for old data that needs to be removed or archive
•Automatically generate report on this data for researchers
•Create a web form to assist with DMP generation
Consulting to Solve Data Management Issues
•Work with researchers to modify data usage to increase efficiency
•Work with researchers to create data management workflows
Creating Data Management Plans
•Read drafts of grants to determine data needs
•Meet with faculty to determine ensure needs are met
•Write initial draft of Data Management Plan (DMP)
Auditing Data Management Plans
•Work with researchers to ensure DMPs are being followed
•Follow up with researchers to ensure any necessary changes are implemented
Communication (Presentations, Participation in Group Meetings, etc)
•Present twice yearly on data management in the IGB
•As needed, present on data management for specific grants when they are up for review
•Work with researchers to help them understand reports generated with data management tools
Server Administration
•Occasionally assist in server installation
•Help administer the HPC system at the IGB
•Fix common permission issues
Additional Physical Demands
Environmental Demands: Occasionally may need to assist in installing servers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of demonstrated work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession. High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) - Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
- Demonstrated administrative experience with Linux and or comparable server.
- Demonstrated data management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: A four-year degree in Information Sciences, CS, or Engineering and additional studies in data management
- Experience: An additional two years of data management experience and two years of Linux server administration experience
- Linux, interpreted programming language (e.g. Python, PHP, or Perl), Database, project coordination, and project management
- HDF5, ZFS, MySQL, Ceph, GPFS, S3/Amazon, Python, and PHP
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closed date. The starting salary for this position is $70,000 annually. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
