Applications are now being accepted for the Accountant I - Illini Union position for Illini Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Job Summary
Assists the Business Managers in all financial aspects of the Illini Union (IU) operationÍž provides support and backup for the Business Affairs Office.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reconciliation of reports and bank statements, noting apparent errors or inconsistencies.
  • Prepares and examines multiple financial statements and reports for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to guidelines.
  • Reconciliation of multiple automated systems, correcting discrepancies.
  • Maintains appropriation and other subsidiary ledgers.
  • Assists higher level accountants in evaluation, implementation, and operation of automated accounting systems.
  • Assists in financial analysis procedures.
  • Closes monthly and annual account books.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:

A. Work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field

B. College course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field (including 12 semester hours in accounting)
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
  • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelors Accounting Degree
  • 2 years of accounting experience including A/R & A/P
  • Retail Sales accounting experience
  • 2 years of accounting software experience
  • Experience using Banner Finance (University of Illinois system)
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Double-entry bookkeeping experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with ability to easily learn new accounting software
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Knowledge of staff supervision practices
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0010 - Accountant I position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/27/2024. Salary is commensurate with experience, with the minimum at $41,000.00 per year. The usual work days for this position are Monday through Friday (8:30 am to 5 pm), with additional days/hours required for operational needs. Work for this position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a potential hybrid basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. .
