Description:

The Dietitian Nutritionist is responsible for the assessment and management of medical nutrition therapy for patients followed in the pediatric genetics clinic with inborn errors of metabolism and other genetic conditions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide inpatient and outpatient management of medical nutrition therapy of genetics patients with inborn errors of metabolism and other genetic conditions including but not limited to phenylketonuria, maternal PKU, maple syrup urine disease, urea cycle defects, galactosemia, organic acid disorders, fatty acid oxidation disorders, and Prader Willi syndrome
Support newborn screening processes working closely with the Illinois Department of Public Health such as coordinating with primary care physicians and families to schedule initial visits, providing education and follow up communication
Educate patients, families, caregivers, medical providers on inborn error of metabolism nutrition therapy such as condition specific diets, assessment, management, and evaluation
Develop and evaluate materials to provide information reflective of current literature in order to reinforce dietary and/or nutritional recommendations
Regular communication and follow up with patients and families with inborn errors of metabolism to support patient care, compliance and understanding of medical conditions
Interact and coordinate with genetic physicians and other physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, and other hospital staff as required to ensure optimal patient care; participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to contribute nutritional expertise toward patient care plan
Keep current on new concepts and developments in dietetics and nutritional therapy
Supervise clinical experiences and provides lectures for students
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
