Job Description Summary

As a Test Engineer with GE Aerospace, you’ll be a part of a highly respected team of Engineers and Technicians developing and demonstrating test solutions for pneumatic and electrical/mechanical aerospace products. Includes designing/maintaining our advanced engineering pneumatic test lab and other test equipment operation. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. The role operates with some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities/provision of advice within an enabling discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Activities require professional judgment but may require more senior levels of guidance. This position is full time, onsite, in Loves Park, IL.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

This role will be working alongside a team of engineers of varying experience to develop and support products primarily in the aerospace market. This individual will be responsible for supporting product design engineering by leading the creation and execution of test procedures, the development of necessary test fixtures and root cause investigations related to all testing phases. This support includes new product development, field issues, research, and production support. The products include bleed air pneumatic valves and linear actuators, used in aerospace applications.

In addition, you will:

+ Lead aerospace test projects through all phases of testing from initial design through certification and release including:

+ Review specifications leading to development of test requirements and plans.

+ Write test procedures used to validate aerospace components to meet needs of the project, customer, and company.

+ Develop cost and schedule estimates.

+ Design and validate test setups for specialized product testing of aerospace pneumatic components including test hardware, instrumentation, data collection, and/or software.

+ Communicate current test project status, issues, risks, and developments.

+ Analyze test data, evaluate results, and write technical test reports

+ Prepare material for and participate in customer reviews and presentations related to testing.

+ Work with external vendors to acquire test equipment or support outsource testing as necessary.

+ Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard test engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

+ Collaborate with cross functional teams such as lab technicians, design engineering, production, configuration management, and program management.

+ Be responsible for the technical adequacy of test procedures, methods, and instrumentation to the test objectives stated by the lab customer.

+ Improve testing methods through embracing “Lean” methodology and principals and standard work by streamlining nonvalue added processes and procedures.

+ Perform peer reviews and mentor engineers and technicians in areas of expertise

? Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field from an accredited university or college

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in Test Engineering

Desired Characteristics

+ Highly motivated with ability to work independently

+ Detail oriented with strong oral and written communication skills

+ Effective problem identification and solution skills

+ Knowledge of testing equipment, sensors, and data acquisition used in a laboratory environment.

+ Comfortable with “hands-on” laboratory activities such assembling test setups using basic hand tools.

+ Strong understanding of airflow and thermodynamics.

+ Experience with CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorks and/or NX, for fixture design and drawings.

+ Experience with LabVIEW programming for testing applications and data collection

+ Experience with MATLAB or similar for data analysis and mathematical simulation

+ Familiarity with DO-160 testing, FAR 25/FAR33 certification

+ Experience with pneumatic components, pneumatic and electromagnetic actuation, torque motors, stepper motor, brushless DC motors and electronic controls.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
