Responsibilities The Marion VA Health Care System is seeking a highly motivated Registered Nurse Manager to Supervise the Centralized Referral Coordination Team within Chief of Staff Service in Marion, IL. This position reports directly to the Group Practice Manager Chief. The incumbent will primarily be assigned to the Referral Coordination Team for consult review and directing care coordination relating to Internal Consults and referral to Community Care, when applicable. This position is primarily a day shift position. The incumbent will be required to complete administrative tasks established by the immediate supervisor. Not all duties may be listed, so other duties may be assigned. The incumbent will execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The position requires flexibility and may have to provide direct care in emergency situations. The incumbent is accountable for adhering to established policies, exemplifying high quality standards of care, utilizing evidence-based nursing practice standards, and for demonstrating leadership and accomplishments when providing patient care. The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of programs to improve the delivery of patient care. Provides an environment that fosters employees to perform to their full individual potential, promotes a culture of staff empowerment and transformational leadership. The incumbent demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management. Serves as a resource and role model to the staff. Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative skills in a potentially high stress environment. Promotes, creates, demonstrates, and ensure a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. Works cooperatively with union leadership and will adhere to EEO principles. The incumbent communicates with patients, family members, internal and external co-workers and customers in a courteous, tactful, helpful, and understanding manner. He/she is administratively responsible to the Group Practice Manager and responsible for other team members. The incumbent is required to be BLS certified. Position not eligible for full/time telework. Specific responsibilities include planning, administering, directing care delivery by maximizing efficient consult completeness, appropriateness, and timeliness to schedule. Assists clinical services in the identification of consult issues, needed consult redesign, care delivery, referral paths. Works with both Internal services and Community Care to identify flow issues or process improvement. PLEASE NOTE: These positions require Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If selected, Applicants will provide proof of current certifications prior to employment. Only BLS certification which included Automated External Defibrillator (AED) obtained from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Military Treatment Training Network (MTN) will be accepted. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
