A Lot About You:

Yahoo Finance is seeking an experienced reporter to build on and elevate our coverage of the housing market in a way that helps tell the story of everyday Americans' economic successes and struggles. For most of our audience, a house is their single biggest investment. We're looking for a journalist who can analyze economic and housing data and distill it into contextual stories that help readers understand the real estate landscape better. You should be a storyteller, with the curiosity and news instincts to find stories on the beat that no one else is telling.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, report and write original news and enterprise stories about the housing market, including mortgage rates, housing trends, impacts of the recent Realtor commission settlement, how Americans are navigating the current high-rate environment, and more
  • Regularly pitch well-formed, original ideas for coverage and accept feedback for shaping your ideas into stories, videos and graphics
  • Collaborate on other personal finance news stories in the areas of taxes, insurance, consumer debt and credit, and other relevant news as it arises
  • Deepen your subject matter expertise by reading current news and academic articles about housing topics and interviewing a wide array of experts, industry professionals and home buyers and sellers
  • Contribute to Yahoo Finance's original video programming, either with on-camera appearances discussing your reporting, helping create long-form explainer videos or working with the production team on longer-lead features.
  • Monitor performance metrics of your work to glean new story ideas and insights about the audience's interest and needs
  • Collaborate with the evergreen team to find opportunities to add or contribute content



Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years as a professional journalist, including some time spent in daily journalism
  • Experience covering personal finance and consumer issues. Housing experience is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of financial markets and economic events and ability to contextualize them in your storytelling
  • Superior writing skills and news judgment
  • Agile, deadline-driven mentality and ability to turn around edits quickly
  • Proven ability to conduct thoughtful, enlightening interviews with sources of all kinds in person and on the phone. (We have a strong bias against emailed quotes.) Experience in sourcing...
