TITLE:

Manager, Pediatric Readiness Initiatives (Grant Funded)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Sr Manager, Emerging Threats & Disaster Management

BASIC FUNCTION:

Manage and implement assigned American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) activities within the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN) and other disaster readiness activities. Collaborate with partners within the PPN and other related initiatives (e.g., Emergency Medicaid Services for Children Innovation and Improvement Center) to integrate project activities, disseminate knowledge, and support partnerships/collaborations that maximize the role of AAP members in disaster planning efforts, including improving pediatric readiness in the hospital and pre-hospital settings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Provide project management support for the PPN Medical Home Domain, including administration, budgeting, strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, program development, and implementation.
2.Lead relevant grant and cooperative agreement activities specific to the Pediatric Pandemic Network.
3.Collaborate with other PPN project managers to schedule, support, coordinate, and integrate the work of the Medical Home Domain into the overall operations of the PPN, including quality improvement initiatives.
4.Work with the PPN Medical Home Domain Steering Committee and Advisory Committee, including recruitment of additional members, completing needs assessments, and implementing project activities.
5.Disseminate key learnings from the Medical Home Domain of the PPN through AAP communication channels and facilitate communication and collaboration with AAP chapters, as appropriate.
6.Represent the AAP at meetings with project officers, foundations, and other external partners on active public PPN activities and develop reports for AAP leadership and external partners/funders as needed.
7.Identify and develop methodologies for strategic collaboration with local, state, and national leaders of public and private programs, family organizations, professional associations, and related organizations across programs as requested by the Medical Home Domain and PPN leadership.
8.Lead the development, production, publication, and dissemination of materials including any newsletters, after-action discussions, evaluation, and promotional materials.
9.Leverage the AAP reach by working with other AAP staff to provide pediatricians and other pediatric health professionals with knowledge and tools to support families in their communities during disasters and improve overall pediatric readiness during disasters and other public health emergencies, like pandemics, with content and learning opportunities developed through the PPN.
10.Manage assigned grant budgets and processing of expenditures and work with the AAP Finance staff to prepare required reports to the funders.
11.Participate in AAP cross-functional teams related to disaster management and pediatric readiness.
12.Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, emergency management, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

At least three years' related experience in public health program planning and administration, including fiscal/budget responsibility, facilitating collaboration between various partners, editing/drafting correspondence and reports, and developing educational materials/resources, preferably related to disaster management activities. Experience with technical writing/editing, grants management/writing, pediatric public health issues, and working in a medical association, state public health agency, or national advocacy organization strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, diplomacy, critical thinking, project management, verbal/written communication skills required. Must be able to handle a heavy workload, manage multiple priorities simultaneously within established deadlines, work both independently and as part of a team, think creatively, take initiative, pay close attention to details, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, quickly pivot as disaster response needs arise, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
