Reporting to the Provost, the Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning is responsible for providing visionary, strategic, and equity-focused leadership for credit programs, faculty, and staff. Working collaboratively with other members of the provost's team, this position is responsible for maintaining a focus on student success, instructional and academic excellence, and making data-informed decisions in alignment with the College mission and strategic goals. The Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning oversees and supports colleagues in developing new academic programs, planning instructional modalities and schedules for credit course/program delivery, conducting academic program review, assessing student learning and evaluating success measures, and providing faculty professional development. This position supports collaborative work with education partners inside and outside the College to implement dual credit and create seamless pathways from secondary education, through Waubonsee, to transfer institutions and careers.

Responsibilities

Implement the College's strategic initiatives in meeting the needs of students, universities, community, industry and business, and employers.

Build strong relationships with faculty, academic administrators, and the provost's leadership team to advance excellence in teaching and learning.

Facilitate and support the creation of programs that enhance student learning, retention, completion, and placement/career success.

Help guide development and implementation of new academic programs and services, innovative pedagogy, and community partnerships.

In collaboration with the academic deans and staff, guide the ongoing review of programs to strengthen content, ensure relevance and currency, improve student learning and educational outcomes, and increase student and community connections through academic programs.

Ensure academic programs adhere to federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
Oversee the full-time faculty evaluation and tenure process, conduct non-tenured faculty observations, and provide support and guidance to the academic deans in the employment and supervision of full-time and adjunct faculty.

Collaborate extensively with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to inform, understand, and develop evolving student success strategies focused on ensuring equitable student outcomes.

Oversee and provide strategic direction for implementing and scheduling courses and programs that meet the needs of the district, including prospective and current students, employers, other education providers, and community-based organizations.

Support dual credit courses and programming in collaboration with internal staff, administrators, and faculty, and high school teams to ensure equitable access to dual credit and compliance with the state and Higher Learning Commission.

Maintain a visible profile and partner with stakeholders within and outside the College to enhance communication.

With other leaders at the College, anticipate and plan for emerging issues and establish annual goals and budgets for the unit, ensuring institutional resources meet the needs of both new and continuing students.

Work with Information Technology to ensure that systems continue to be appropriate for academic purposes and are responsive to instructional needs.

Assist the Provost in establishing policies, guidelines, and procedures affecting teaching and learning.

Represent Waubonsee at the state and national level, as appropriate or necessary, on teaching and learning issues.

Perform other duties assigned by the Provost.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a discipline offered in the credit programs or related field required. Doctorate in related area preferred.

A minimum of five years' progressively responsible leadership experience in academic administration at the dean level or higher with a proven track record of success required.

A minimum of four years of supervisory experience including supervision of faculty required.

Demonstrated experience in effectively addressing situations of competing or conflicting priorities and proposing solutions in a union environment preferred.

Higher education teaching experience preferred.

Creative and innovative mindset, with a vision for the future of academic programs preferred.

Familiarity with changing technologies that impact teaching and learning preferred.

Strong leadership, relationship-building, project management, and organizational skills required.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills that demonstrate intercultural competence required.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all dimensions: academic programs, curricula, students, staff, faculty required.
