Duties and Responsibilities
General Description of position
The Visitation Coordinator (VC) serves as a Loyola team member establishing the OVW Justice for Families (JFF) funded supervised visitation and safe exchange center at Loyola University (LSVC). The LSVC is focused on providing supervised visitation and safe exchange services between parents for children of victims of domestic violence in Cook County.
The part time VC will engage in the direct facilitation of safe child visitation and/or safe exchange services with families impacted by domestic violence according to LSVC policy and protocols. The VC will engage in domestic violence training and education related to the center's operations. The VC will be joined by and work with MSW Loyola students in the delivery of these services, ensuring continuity for families utilizing the center during student rotations. The VC will deliver non-judgmental client services with an emphasis on healthy relationships and healing from violence in a safe and supportive environment. The position requires an understanding of intimate partner violence, culture, victim's needs, and confidentiality, ensuring informed delivery of services to victims of domestic violence, their children, as well as those who have perpetrated violence. The VC will help ensure services are delivered using a human-centered, intersectional approach, understanding this work as part of a social justice response to families and community.
VC Duties and Responsibilities
* Conducts assigned intake interviews with new participants and facilitates goal planning with staff or participants using a domestic violence trauma informed approach.
* Coordinates families' assigned visitation scheduling utilizing best practices and guiding principles of supervised visitation programming.
* Facilitates supervised visits and exchanges between parents at the LSVC site.
* Maintains professional relationships with parents and children while treating everyone with respect. Engages in ongoing assessment and evaluation of the family's goals. Provides verbal feedback to participants regarding their conduct and progress in visits.
* Debriefs with parents and children before/after supervised visitation/exchanges and conducts weekly check-in by phone with parents
* Provides supportive referrals for parents as appropriate
* Ensures successful execution of standards, policies and procedures of confidentiality and programming focused on empowerment and safety.
* Intervenes with participants when LSVC guidelines are not being followed or when there is a threat of harm or actual harm to the children, victim, staff, or other individuals: logs facts, intervention taken.
* Provides an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces non-violent, non-manipulative, non-coercive behavior and communication skills, and respect and empathy for self and others.
* Responds effectively toward solving problems or conflict by recognizing a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
* Participates in staff meetings, training, and technical assistance opportunities as well as other Justice for Families related meetings as assigned.
* Helps supervise the MSW student Visitation Facilitators' practice during the delivery of supervised visitation sessions to support a positive learning experience and insure observance of LSVC procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Site Specifics
The LSVC site is located near the Lakeside Loyola Campus in Rogers Parks on Sheridan Road near public transportation
Work schedule includes advanced scheduled weekend hours and/or some limited weekday hours to accommodate on-site scheduled visitation and safe exchange sessions based agency staff capacity.
