Data Analyst

Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar is now accepting applications for a Data Analyst who will report to the Assistant Registrar for Student Systems. The primary responsibilities of the Data Analyst will be to collect, analyze, and report data.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and generate complex data extracts from the Student Information System (Banner) and Enterprise Data Warehouse environments (Oracle db) to address institutional operational reporting/decision support needs and mandated compliance reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and schedule production reports of student data for processing, special academic support programs, and ongoing record keeping functions. This includes generation of data files for batch processing or use of tools being made available by Student Information System (Banner).
  • Leverages knowledge of university business practices and student data to effectively collect and understand report requirements; analyze and identify the appropriate data to satisfy report requests; and produce accurate, clear, and well-informed reports of student data for standard and ad hoc requests for Office of the Registrar staff, colleges and departments, and other external campus units.
  • Creates reporting specifications for new reports/dashboards/analytical tools and performs testing/validation; ensures integrity, accessibility, and accuracy of reports/dashboards and data structures.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools to make recommendations for implementation in an effort to improve data analysis services and approaches.
  • Performs migration and conversion of existing reports, as needed, in support of improved processing/efficiency using newer available technologies.
  • Documents data analysis efforts (data sources, reporting specifications, tools, issue/problem resolutions).
  • Respond to campus FOIA requests when necessary.
  • Provide enrollment statistics as requested for OR, colleges, and departments.
  • Provide end-user support for data retrieval and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).
  • Demonstrated experience working with information systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to IT/Information Management/Data Science.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, including evaluation of requirements, creating complex queries, data quality assurance. This includes database experience with either Oracle or MS SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience with student data analysis in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with reporting tools such as SAS, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, including possible data delivery/visualization techniques with tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a higher education setting.
Appointment Information:

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Minimum salary for this position is $55,000.00. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
