Job Description
State Farm (Bloomington, IL) seeks a Software Engineer to work closely with business partners to develop, test, implement, and support creative solutions for State Farm’s Life company operations. Specific duties include: utilize up-to-date coding, testing, security, DevOps, and software engineering practices to maintain and create new applications that support State Farm’s Life Company operations in the areas of Life Reserves, Life Accounting, Life Tax processing, or anti money laundering; collect and analyze information to identify customer's technical needs, suggest solutions and develop implementation and integration plans; responsible for the analysis, design, deployment, support and security of technology to ensure the organization is efficiently managing its technology and data-related assets in accordance with market best practices and external regulations; possess an understanding of User Experience practices to improve usability and interaction between the customer and product; apply wide application of complex principles, theories and concepts in computer science for software engineering solutions. Position requires occasional domestic travel as needed. Option to work remotely but required travel to local office once per quarter if lives within 180 miles of office.
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science or a closely related field of study, plus 8 years of experience in the job offered, or as an Application Management Senior Analyst, Senior Consultant, Team Leader, Software Engineer or similar position in software development in data processing applications. Must have 8 years of experience with each of the following: programming languages, including Assembler, Cobol, JCL, and AutoFlow. Must have 2 years of experience with each of the following: C, C++, Java, and JavaScript. Specific experience must also include working with database functionality, including SQL and Non-SQL, and mentoring peers on software development. Position requires occasional domestic travel as needed. Option to work remotely but required travel to local office once per quarter if lives within 180 miles of office.
