This high-profile role engages with senior members of Northern Trust to support interaction and engagement with global supervisors.

The seasoned professional provides practical guidance, functional expertise, strategic direction, and execution rigor to supervisory engagement activities, and will support the build out of strong relationships with global supervisors.

A strong and decisive communicator, this individual promotes a collaborative approach to enhance and sustain robust engagement with global supervisors working closely with the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer and their teams. The role will be based in Chicago, reporting directly to the Head of the Global Regulatory Affairs and will collaborate closely with other members of the Global Regulatory Affairs Office, including the Head of Strategic Remediation Oversight and Governance as well as the Head of Regulatory Communication Strategy

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Leadership and Management

  • Develop and implement the overall strategy for supervisory engagement, ensuring transparency and consistency of communications, providing oversight and guidance on the quality of supervisory responses, and ensuring adherence to corporate requirements



  • Coordinate with senior leadership across business units, corporate functions, and legal entities to ensure enterprise-wide consistency of views across jurisdictions



  • Work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer and Regional Chief Risk Officers, manage, and maintain relationships with all supervisors and support senior executives and directors in their preparation for high-profile meetings



  • Manage and serve as a liaison for supervisory examinations to ensure consistent examination practices and successful execution, including coordinating response to supervisory inquiries, managing ongoing supervision meetings, tracking supervisory activity, reporting, and escalating supervisory matters, and providing supervisory relationship support (logistics, technology, information requests, meetings, etc.)



  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and communicate emerging supervisory policy and other issues from U.S. and global supervisors and policymakers that would affect the firm, its clients, and the economy, and develop strategies to influence policy development, and advising key personnel in preparation for policy changes



  • Engage with industry and advocacy groups focused on supervisory events, policies, etc, and manage relationships with global standard setters such as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the Financial Stability Board, and other international bodies



Operational

  • Maintain consistent and complete inventory of global supervisory feedback
