Role/ Department: Director, Asset and Wealth Management

The Audit Services Director, Asset and Wealth Management leads an audit team that plays a strategic role in assessing the management of risk associated with the Asset and Wealth Management lines of business within Northern Trust. The role is a direct report to an Audit Services Managing Director and is responsible for establishing the risk-based audit plan, overseeing the audit team's planning and execution of audits, the performance management process, and recruiting and retention of staff for the audit team.

The Audit Services Director will interact and build relationships with Senior Management in Northern Trust's Asset and Wealth Management global business Units organization. The candidate will utilize their technical and audit expertise to provide input into and oversight of the execution of the annual audit plan, lead department initiatives, lead and guide staff, and act as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders of Audit Services. The Director also collaborates with other Audit Services team leaders to provide support to those teams through integrated audits, fostering an environment which encourages participation, teamwork, and communication.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Leadership and Management:
Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and management to influence a wide range of stakeholders, including executive management, directors, business partners, regulators, and external auditors
Demonstrate strong initiative, program/project management and interpersonal skills, sound decision-making, intuitive thinking, political awareness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity
Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to staff, and foster an environment encouraging employee participation, teamwork, and communication
Oversee the professional development and performance management processes, including recruiting staff, developing talent, building an effective technical team, and resource optimization and alignment
Leverage a strong peer and industry network to identify leading practices
Effectively represent and maintain active involvement in various organizational oversight and governance committees

Operational:
Provide subject matter expertise pertaining to the Asset and Wealth Management industry including, but not limited to coverage of current and emerging regulations, industry trends and risk themes
Deliver a risk-based and dynamic audit plan that validates Northern Trust's control environment while considering emerging risks to the business
Provide thoughtful and logical guidance to the business to mitigate key risks
Provide technical input and challenge on planned audit work to drive proper coverage and awareness across the audit universe
Consult and partner with senior and executive management to understand and provide guidance surrounding the risks within the business, business initiatives, etc.
