Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Program Officer, the successful candidate will serve as Medical Director of the Maternal, Infant, Child, and Adolescent Health (MICAH) Bureau for the City of Chicago. The MICAH Bureau has a staff of more than 140 and is responsible for administering $40 M in public funding, including state and federal grants related to improving maternal, infant, child, and health outcomes. The Medical Director will provide medical and epidemiologic guidance and leadership support to programs across the bureau. Current programs include postpartum nurse home visiting; lead poisoning prevention and healthy homes; supplemental nutrition services for women, infants, and children; school health; and reproductive health.

The Medical Director will be expected to have the ability to work as an effective team member; function independently; exercise sound judgment and initiative; be flexible to shifting priorities; maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain effective interpersonal work relationships; and effectively guide and lead the MICAH staff. The Medical Director will be the clinical expert to ensure strategies and activities are consistent with evidence-based public health practice and with the mission of CDPH.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· With the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of MICAH, oversee strategy and operations of the bureau.?

· Serve as primary subject-matter expert and advisor to CDPH leadership and programs regarding maternal, infant, child, and adolescent health.

· Oversee epidemiology, research, and evaluation efforts of programs across the bureau, directing the work of epidemiologists and clinical leaders.

· Facilitate collaboration with other CDPH programs to maximize the effectiveness of health prevention and promotion efforts and assure appropriate integration of services impacting maternal, infant, child and adolescent health.

· Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders including health care systems, providers, funders, and community-based organizations to promote, design and implement systems-level changes as well as community-specific programs and interventions, in the areas of maternal, infant, child and adolescent health.

· Represent the Commissioner of CDPH and the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Program Officer at local, state, and national and international meetings and conferences on matters related to maternal, infant, child and adolescent health.

· Guides quality assurance and quality improvement activities throughout the bureau.

· Provide medical oversight of clinical services provided by staff across the bureau and develop relevant clinical policy and procedure.

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Work Location: 111 W. Washington 4 th fl Chicago, IL

Work Schedule: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

(Some additional hours may be required in case of public health emergency.)

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), PLUS two years of work experience in the formulation of public health programs, policies or procedures.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

· Must possess a valid and unrestricted physician license awarded by any U.S. state at the time of application.

· Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Illinois physician license and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate at the time of employment.

· Board certification or board eligible in pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, OB-GYN or other clinical specialty.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include an Oral Presentation Skills, including PowerPoint slides, Assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

· Master’s degree in public health preferred.
