Position Summary:
The Director of Knowledge Management (Litigation) (DKM) for Litigation reports to the Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) and supports litigators across Litigation, IP Litigation, Employment Litigation and Antitrust Litigation (collectively, McDermott Litigators) overall knowledge infrastructure and serves a necessary function for McDermott Litigators to work more effectively. This position manages processes, data, creates model forms, and facilitates training to enable the McDermott Litigators to operate more efficiently in order to produce both time and cost savings while providing additional value-add for clients.
The DKM coordinates the implementation of firm-wide knowledge management efforts for McDermott Litigators, collaborates with advisory partners designated by McDermott Litigators to create best practices, gains consensus on standards of operational efficiency, and develops measures of success for the KM program to support McDermott Litigators while promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and practice innovation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Organization and Dissemination of Knowledge
Evaluate current KM infrastructure and work to improve the ability to capture and disseminate information and research and identify and prioritize new projects to enhance efficiency of McDermott Litigators by working with the CKO and advisory partners designated by McDermott Litigators
Facilitate McDermott Litigators efforts to create and maintain a searchable knowledge consisting of exemplar forms, local counsel directory, Judges, Arbitrators, Mediators lists, research memos, surveys, business development materials, and other related content (i.e. industry updates and client alerts)
Monitor key industry updates, legal decisions, and client alerts to provide important updates to McDermott Litigators
Craft procedures to generate, maintain, update, access, and disseminate information (including the Litigation forms and precedents) and other materials
Develop a taxonomy and workflow to complete and deploy the Litigation Case Hub (searchable repository of 3000 McDermott cases we are developing, including responsibility for profiling relevant pleadings to properly categorize the statutes, business issues and other relevant case information) and develop workflows for the maintenance of the platform
Analyze previous case strategies and results to identify patterns and insights to inform future approaches to litigation
Monitor new litigation matters and docket to proactively distribute relevant KM data to attorneys
Act as point person for McDermott Litigators to develop use cases, pilot and successfully deploy new technology such as Co-Pilot, Azure apps, Lexis GenAI and other AI-enabled solutions for Litigation
Work with the KM department to evaluate, test, and deploy innovative technology to reduce manual data collection, automate document creation, assist with legal research, and to otherwise support the practices
Management of Knowledge Management Resources
Consistently and effectively communicate the availability and location of relevant knowledge management resources
Develop a user-friendly interface and training materials that make knowledge management materials easily accessible to the McDermott Litigators during their day-to-day practice
Lawyer Training/CLE's and Technology Evaluation
