Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Graphic Design and Digital/Social Media Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for managing the development and implementation of the department's marketing and communication strategies and promotional activities to internal and external constituents through graphic design and social media content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop creative and engaging content to enhance NIU Recreation on various social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn etc.).
Lead the production efforts for the creation of new content, including videography, basic photography, editing and publishing.
Develop a comprehensive marketing and sales plan to maximize fundraising initiatives, community program/membership sales while utilizing creative design concepts.
Performance measures will be established by the Associate Athletic Director for Recreation and will be reviewed annually.
Lead creation of creative design concepts and storyboards for NIU Recreation to include:
Final artwork for use on websites, social media, and specific revenue generating events.
Design support graphics and layouts to be used for various initiatives and Recreation programs.
Participates in photo selection to be used for various projects.
Select formats and have stylistic input on various design pieces.

Ability to create visually aesthetic representations within accepted graphic design practices of NIU and NIU Athletics.
Devises strategies to maximize attention and interest in NIU Recreation.
Provides professional support of Recreation events by creating content and promotion before, during and after events.
Produce video content for websites, YouTube, and other social platforms.
Provide strategies to grow and increase revenue capability of NIU Athletics Official YouTube Channel.
Coordinate photography of the department's activities to create a digital record and for use in publications.
Manage NIU Recreation social media accounts, providing strategy while monitoring results, analytics, and emerging digital trends year-round.
Create and implement a social media calendar, detailing the content, messaging, and platform of each post to ensure timely publication of marketing content.
Ensure brand compliance with the university standards as well as departmental branding procedures, working closely with the Sr. Associate Athletic Director/External Affairs.
Maintain electronic files and records for design projects.
Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Social Media Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, Photography, Marketing, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in marketing, brand management, advertising, promotions, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related professional field.
One (1) year (12 months) of postgraduate, professional experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
One (1) year (12 months) of experience with video producing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut,After Effects, or similar programs).


Note: A Master's degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
