Contract Appointments are considered Status Civil Service Appointments. Contract Appointments are positions assigned work and performed at a location away from the primary premises or immediate environs of the employer. Official class titles shall be used for Contract Appointments.

Incumbents in Contract Appointments are not eligible for transfer to other positions (except other Contract Appointments in the same class at the same location) and are not eligible for promotional examinations.

This position provides administrative assistance to the Director of the Office of Community Engagement and Director of the Institute for Rural Health, who serve the Office of the President for Southern Illinois University and routinely represent the Vice President in dealing with the campuses and with external agencies and individuals. In support of the Director of the Office of Community Engagement and the Director of the Institute for Rural Health, the incumbent interacts with personnel from the constituent universities, external agencies, and serves as liaison on their behalf with the Vice President's Office internal staff.

Provides administrative assistance and office support to the Director of the Office of Community Engagement and the Director of the Institute for Rural Health.
Performs the day to day operations of the two units, including receiving and relaying messages and maintaining the calendars for principals.
Manage departmental files, ensuring the retention and recall access as needed.
Assists in gathering information for the Director of the Office of Community Engagement and Director for the Institute for Rural Health; drafts agendas for meetings, transcribes minutes; coordinate and dissemination of materials.
Drafts routine correspondence for review by Director; edits correspondence composed by the Director and completes final copy.
Arranges meetings for both Directors, on and off campus and assists in preparation for meetings.
Maintains an overview of unit responsibilities, activities and deadlines.
Act as liaison between the Office of Community Engagement and/or Institute for Rural Health and administration of other University departments as well as external agencies.
Makes travel arrangements and completes travel vouchers for reimbursement for travel expenses.
Manages university P-Card, as cardholder and maintains documentation for each purchase as required.
Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent
Any one or any combination totaling five (5) years (60 months) from the following categories:
college course work in business, finance, accounting or a related field:
60 semester hours or an Associate's degree equals one (1) year (12 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
120 semester hours or a Bachelor's degree equals three (3) years (36 months)
Master's degree or higher equals four (4) years (48 months)
progressively more responsible general or specialized office experience which included aspects of supervising staff or a job function, organizing, and performing duties that lead to knowledge of generally accepted office principles
