Summary This position is located in Region III, Division of Radiological Safety and Security, Materials Licensing Branch, Lisle, Illinois. The supervisor is Robert Orlikowski. This position is in the Bargaining Unit of the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208. The selectee for this position will be subject to the Office of Government Ethics Confidential Financial Disclosure Reporting Requirements. More than one selection may be made based upon the staffing needs of the organization. Responsibilities Responsible for performing radiological and environmental protection licensing and inspection of facilities possessing and using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials. Conducts investigations to evaluate occurrences with radiological safety significance and to determine the status of compliance with Commission requirements. Responsible for analysis and evaluation of radiological hazards, design specifications, and operating procedures described in license applications and existing at applicant and licensee facilities for a wide variety of uses of radioactive material. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is a Drug Testing position. Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes experience that demonstrates experience in the technical aspects of NRC programs and policies and inspections relating to programs that require work with radiological safety technology, including radiation physics and dosimetry, with particular emphasis on the use of ionizing radiation in medicine and industry. Education To be considered qualified for this professional position, candidates must meet BOTH the basic professional knowledge/education requirements AND the specialized experience requirements. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of the theories, principles, and practices in the general field of health physics, evidenced by possession of a bachelor’s degree in a natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics, including calculus or equivalent, OR completion of the courses listed above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics. Additional Information The duty location of this position is Lisle, Illinois. In general, employees are expected to be in the office 4 days per pay period. Telework schedules are approved, on a case-by-case basis. If selected, telework will be determined in accordance with Agency policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if applicable.
