JOB TITLE: Recreation & Activities Instructor – Part-Time / Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Wellness Coordinator

SUMMARY: With passion and dedication to excellence, the MPSC Recreation and Activities Instructor will lead various cultural arts and recreational programming at the facility by applying proven instruction methods that both inspire and guide each and every participant regardless of age, experience, or knowledge of a wide variety of different recreational activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

+ P rovides instruction and supervision to patrons in various sports, games, cultural arts, and competitive athletics.

+ Demonstrates proper techniques and skills for recreation and athletics, ensuring participants develop fundamental abilities.

+ Adapts programs to accommodate differing levels of participant skill development, fostering inclusive environments.

+ Instructs specialized creative arts classes, nurturing participants’ artistic talents and creativity.

+ Provides comprehensive information on the rules of individual and team sports, ensuring understanding and fair play.

+ Explains the basics of organized activities, guiding participants through structured programs effectively.

+ Enforces and promote safety guidelines for recreation and athletic activities, prioritizing the well-being of all involved.

+ Resolves conflict among participants with diplomacy and fairness, fostering positive interactions.

+ Officiates team and individual sports, ensuring adherence to regulations and promoting sportsmanship.

+ Promotes sportsmanship and encourage creativity among participants, fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.

+ Develops and creates new class ideas to cater to specialized skills and interests, innovating to meet evolving needs.

+ Communicates constructively with participants, parents, volunteers, and the community, maintaining professionalism and transparency.

+ Completes other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

+ 1-3 years of previous teaching experience in a group setting required. Please include in resume additional coaching/playing experience.

+ Ability to teach programming for all ages and skill levels.

+ Self-motivated, with excellent communication and customer service skills.

+ Punctual, reliable, organized, and responsible.

+ Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.

+ Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

+ Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess current Red Cross CPR certification. Additional specialty/certifications preferred. Have working knowledge of sports teaching strategies and the incorporation of drills and skills. Ability to be professional and motivate class participants. Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND HOUR: Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays. This is a part-time position with up to 10 hours per week (hours vary seasonally).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit for long hours and work with various types of sports equipment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally must aide or assist participants. The employee must have the endurance to complete the instruction of the assigned fitness program.
